CLEARWATER, Fla. – The University of North Dakota softball team lost two games in the second day of competition at the USF Under Armour Invitational; losing to U-Mass Lowell, 10-2, and Army, 8-0, on Saturday.
In the day's first game against U-Mass Lowell, the Fighting Hawks got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Senior Emily Bell hit her first home run of the season to lead off the inning.
However, the Riverhawks responded in the bottom of the second with three runs off of two hits to take a 3-1 lead. In the third, Kaylin VanDomelen led off with a triple before a sac fly by Megan Keegan allowed VanDomelen to score and cut into the Riverhawks lead.
Unfortunately, it would be the final run that UND would score on the day as U-Mass Lowell would go on to score seven more runs to take a 10-2 win in five innings.
UND ran into strong pitching from Army, as the Black Knights held the Fighting Hawks to just two hits en-route to an 8-0 win in five innings. The Black Knights used a six-run outing in the bottom of the second before scoring two more runs in the fourth to claim the win.
North Dakota takes on Fairfield tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. (CT) to complete the weekend's competition in Clearwater, Fla.
