AUBURN, Ala. – The University of North Dakota dropped an 8-0 decision to the No. 2 Auburn Tigers as part of the Tiger Invitational on Friday evening at Jane B. Moore Field.
It was the second game in as many days against Auburn (12-1) for the Fighting Hawks (6-6), as UND lost to the Tigers, 6-0, on Thursday night. Despite keeping Auburn scoreless for five innings the day before, UND was only able to record to shutout innings as Auburn used a three-run outing in the bottom of the sixth for a walk-off fashion victory.
Auburn took the lead behind a solo homerun in the first inning to take the lead. The Tigers then used a two-run homer in the second to go up 3-0.
North Dakota then settled down and kept the Tigers off the board for the third and fourth innings, but Auburn broke out in the fifth for two runs on two hits for a 5-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers scored the final three runs they would need off of three hits and two errors.
Hannah Bergh started the game for UND and threw four innings before Nikki Pica came in for relief in the fourth. Pica threw for one inning and was replaced by VanDomelen in the fifth, while Bergh came back in the sixth.
The Fighting Hawks recorded three hits in the contest, one from Taylor Nadler, Victoria Minor and Autumn Cervantez each.
North Dakota takes back to the field tomorrow morning for a game against No. 13 James Madison at 9:45 a.m. (CT), followed by a contest against UMass-Lowell at noon.
