North Dakota heads to Cal Poly for road battle

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – After a tough loss on the road last week, RV/NR North Dakota will travel away from Grand Forks once again to battle Cal Poly on Saturday evening from Alex G. Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Kickoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. (CT) and can be seen on Pluto TV or heard on the radio through the Home of Economy Radio Network.

This will be the eighth meeting between North Dakota and Cal Poly, with UND holding a slight, 4-3 advantage in the series. Remarkably, this will only be the second all-time meeting in San Luis Obispo, with the first coming in the 2015 season finale. All three losses for the Fighting Hawks in the series came in three straight years (2010-2012), but the green and white have rattled off two consecutive wins over the Mustangs.

It has been an up-and-down month for the UND secondary, as the Fighting Hawks entered October as the nation's top passing defense, but have been victimized the last two games. UC Davis finished with 357 yards through the air, the most UND had surrendered all year, and the first time the Hawks have allowed more than 200 passing yards in a game this season. Idaho State made it back-to-back games with 300+ yards, throwing for 396 and five touchdowns last weekend in Pocatello.

While UND is currently sitting with a 3-0 mark at the Alerus Center, including a pair of ranked wins, the road has not been as kind to the Fighting Hawks. The green and white are currently 0-3 away from Grand Forks, and are being outscored 127-47 in those three games. The Hawks are looking to avoid an 0-4 start on the road for the fourth time in the Division I era (2008-present).
