Fighting Hawks dominate singles play in win over Omaha

UND moves to 3-1 in Summit League play

OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota women's team notched its third win in Summit League play with a 6-1 win over Omaha on Friday afternoon in Nebraska.

The Fighting Hawks move to 3-1 in league play and above the .500 mark at 11-10 overall with the triumph. After dropping both contested matches in doubles play, UND rallied for six straight wins on the singles court to defeat the Mavericks and collect another conference win.

Omaha picked up the doubles point with triumphs on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts, but the duo of Preethi Kasilingam and Allie Ochotorena were leading 6-5 in their match at the second position when two-person play was called.

Despite dropping the early point, UND rallied in singles play with six straight victories, dropping only two sets, to roll to the 6-1 win. Kaede Amano tied the score at one with a pair of 6-1 triumphs on the No. 2 court before Masha Lobanova gave the Fighting Hawks the lead for good with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the bottom position.

After grasping the momentum with their lead in the doubles match, Kasilingam and Ochotorena each captured wins in straight sets to seal the match triumph for the Fighting Hawks. Isa Sullivan and Zahra Finnigan put a ribbon on singles action for the visitors with a three-set win to polish off the six straight wins in solo action.

North Dakota closes out the regular season tomorrow evening in Sioux Falls with a showdown against South Dakota beginning at 6 p.m.
