Strong Team Service Leads to Straight-Set Win in Mississippi

ITTA BENA, Miss. – With service that led to 10 aces, the University of North Dakota volleyball team made short work of Mississippi Valley State. wining in straight sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-13. Sara Antic led the way for UND, posting five in the final two sets.

"Today was a great team win. Our service was excellent and a big part of what we did well. We were very balanced and we saw some of what we need to work on as we prepare for next week," said Head Coach Jeremiah Tiffin. "It was great to get everyone some playing time today as well, and put some different rotations in the match.

McKenzie Damon owned the service line for North Dakota in the opening set as she tallied four service aces, and setup the Fighting Hawks block to allow for 10 kills on the attack. A balanced attack from Ashley Brueggeman, Darian Chwialkowski and Taylor Riedl allowed for 25-18 victory in the opening frame.

Antic followed Damon's lead in the second set as her service led to an 8-0 scoring run halfway through the second set as the Devilettes only returned two balls in the stretch. Antic accounted for two aces and three kills in the frame as the Fighting Hawks defense held Mississippi Valley State to -.154 hitting percentage while recording a clip of .323. North Dakota won the set, 25-14.

Strong service continued in the final set as Antic again served a 8-0 run for North Dakota. The junior college transfer finished the match with three kills and five service aces. UND made short work of Mississippi Valley in the set as it claimed a 25-13 win to clinch its third-straight match.

The University of North Dakota held the Devilettes to a -.034 hitting percentage in the match, and finishing the day with 10 service aces and five blocks. Chwialkowski led the Fighting Hawks with 12 kills.

North Dakota will return to action Friday, Sept. 6 when it heads to Rhode Island for Bryant's Hampton Inn-Vitational, taking on Villanova, Bryant and Marist.
