HOMEWOOD, Ill. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team made it back-to-back wins to get back to the .500 mark on Saturday, dropping Chicago State, 5-2, in Homewood, Ill.
UND (2-2) notches its second straight win on the weekend, and will look to close out a sweep in the Windy City on Sunday morning.
In doubles play, the Fighting Hawks didn't waste much time taking an early lead, capturing victories on all three courts.
Chuck Tang and
Lucas Percy started the contest with a 6-3 win on the No. 3 court before
Jake Kuhlman and
Edmond Aynedjian clinched the point in two-man action with a 6-4 triumph from the No. 2 position.
Lukas Buth and
Andreja Petrovic put the finishing touches on a perfect afternoon from the doubles courts with a gritty, 7-6 win from the top spot.
UND pushed the match to its brink in the opening moments of singles play, with the visitors claiming a pair of quick victories at the No. 5 and No. 1 positions.
Johnatan Parat made it 2-0 Hawks with a 6-0, 6-2 win before Petrovic remained perfect in singles play during his career with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph and gave the green and white a 3-0 lead.
A trio of three-set matches defined the victory for UND, with the Hawks claiming the first pair of those contests to earn the win. Kuhlman provided the winning point by rallying back after a 6-4 defeat in the opening frame with 6-0 and 6-1 wins before Percy swept his foe from the No. 6 position, 7-6, 6-3, to seal the victory.
North Dakota returns to action tomorrow morning against Illinois-Chicago.
