No. 13 Ragin' Cajuns use fourth inning power in 9-1 win

Fighting Hawks fall to 3-3; battle Samford on Saturday

LAFAYETTE, La. -- No. 13 Louisiana-Lafayette struck for five runs in the fourth inning to power past North Dakota, 9-1, in five innings on Friday afternoon in Lafayette.

The Ragin' Cajuns (5-1) tallied a run in each inning while limiting North Dakota (3-3) to just one hit and a single run in the first meeting between the two programs.

Nikki Pica, who defeated No. 25 Long Beach State last season, surrendered seven runs and seven hits over 3.1 innings before giving way to Lauren Feld who allowed a pair of runs and four hits over the final 1.1 frames.

Trailing 3-0 heading to the top of the fourth, UND started to get the offense going. Morgan Flann led off the inning with a walk before swiping second and moving to third on a one-out single by Angel Love to place runners on the corners with the tying run coming to the plate. Feld, who has a homer to her credit earlier this season, grounded out to second but brought a run home to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The two-run gap was as close as the Fighting Hawks would get, as ULL added six runs over the final two frames of play to collect the 9-1 victory.

North Dakota returns to action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. against Samford.
