UND Summit League Food Drive Adapting to COVID-19 Pandemic

Annual SAAC food drive to adapt food collection process

In ongoing efforts to ensure the health and safety of the Greater Grand Forks community, University of North Dakota student-athletes are making adjustments to their annual food drive. As part of an initiative by the Summit League Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for a league wide community service project, each member institution is challenged to hold a food drive to collect the most food and monetary donations to support a local food bank in their community.

"With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the student-athletes and the athletic department want to do our part in preventing the spread of the virus to protect our community," said Director of Student-Athlete Development, Tyler Burmeister. "In following along with CDC and UND recommendations, we will be shifting our collection process to an online platform."

In previous years, UND student-athletes have distributed fliers for door-to-door food collection in the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks communities. Door-to-door collection was to take place on Wednesday, March 25th between 6pm-8pm. Community members will now be able to make donations through a You Give Goods webpage. All donations will go to the assist the Salvation Army of Grand Forks.

Community members can also provide donations to the Salvation Army by visiting the Salvation Army Webpage and the Grand Forks Salvation Army Facebook page.
