SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- A pair of 4.0 student-athletes from the University of North Dakota highlight the Summit League All-Academic Outdoor Track & Field Teams, announced Thursday.
Erica Eades and
Madison Overby both graduated with perfect GPAs this May and helped North Dakota to a fourth-place finish at the Summit League Indoor Championships.
Eades, who was named UND's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was a 4.0 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. She tallied Second Team All-Summit League honors in cross country. She helped set the Distance Medley Relay record at South Dakota State and was All-Summit League in the 800-meters and the distance medley relay. The East Grand Forks, Minn., product was an Academic All-Summit League member and sits second in the indoor and third in the outdoor 800-meters in the school's record book, both the fastest times in UND's Division I history.
Overby, a co-captain for the cross country team, ran to Second Team All-Summit League honors in her 2018 Summit League debut and followed that up with first team honors this season with her sixth place finish. The Austin, Minn., native holds three school records: the indoor 3,000 meter and the 3,200 meter relay and 4,000 meter distance medley relay indoor. She also holds an additional five UND all-time top 10 performances in distance events. Overby was also named to the Summit League 2018-19 Academic Honor Roll and the Commissioners Academic List.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's participating members, and voting is conducted by both sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives. Each team is made up of the 15 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
