Serves Plague North Dakota Against Omaha

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Service aces and service errors plagued North Dakota in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-13) loss to Omaha (8-7, 5-0 Summit) at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Thursday night. In total, the match featured 10 service aces for the Mavericks and eight service errors for the Fighting Hawks.

Alexa Albinson led North Dakota (1-17, 0-16 Summit) with an attacking percentage of .417 to go with five kills. Elizabeth Norris recorded double-digit assists in the match with 11, while Kortney Carney dished out seven assists.

McCallister Gayle led the Fighting Hawk defense with 15 digs and three blocks (one solo, two assisted). Kelly Wahl also had three blocks on the night (all assisted).

The Fighting Hawks won the statistical category of blocks (11-6) and the Mavericks controlled the match with the advantage in assists (31-18), service aces (10-2) and digs (49-38).

In the opening set, Omaha led 2-0 before North Dakota knotted the match up at 7-7. The Fighting Hawks went up 8-7 on a Carney service ace and held the lead up until 10-9, following a pair of attack errors for Omaha and a Taylor Pribyl kill. UND held tough but ultimately fell 25-15 after a 15-5 run by Omaha to close the set. The Mavericks held a 3-2 advantage in service aces following the first set.

North Dakota trailed set two early by a margin of 9-4 before calling a timeout. Following the timeout, Omaha went on another run to bring the tally to 20-12. North Dakota battled in the final points but ultimately fell 25-14.

The Mavericks led the entire way through the final set and put the game away with a score of 25-13 in set three. The set opened with three consecutive service aces from Omaha's Claire Mountjoy to help put the Mavericks up 6-1 early. Omaha continued its onslaught with another service ace to bring the score to 11-2 before finishing the set with a 14-11 run.

North Dakota will host Denver at Noon on Saturday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
