BATON ROUGE, La. -- No. 8/9 LSU used a 15-run fourth inning to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 19-2 lead and helped the Tigers never look back in a 19-3 win over North Dakota on Wednesday morning from Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.
UND (1-4) refused to quit against one of the top teams in the nation, bringing the tying run to the plate in the top of the fourth and pounding out five hits. The bottom of the order was the spark on the offensive side of things, with
Cassie Castaneda picking up an RBI double and scoring a run while
Jocelyn Kirk also had an RBI on a single.
Alexys Campos continued to be a threat at the top of the order, scoring a run and posting another hit.
Lauren Feld got the start in the circle for the Fighting Hawks and limited the Tigers to just two hits, but walks were an issue for the entire UND pitching staff, surrendering 12 on the day.
Nikki Pica led the visitors with a trio of strikeouts and helped the get the Hawks out of a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of third, but could not get through the fourth inning as the green and white were forced to use four hurlers during the frame.
North Dakota is scheduled to take on Alcorn State in a doubleheader on Friday, but with poor weather in the area forecasted for all week/weekend, please check FightingHawks.com and social media @UNDsoftball for schedule updates.
