Jannay Jones tossing a no-hitter in the finale.
G1: North Dakota 2, Southern 1
In the opener, strong pitching dictated the game for the Fighting Hawks, with
Adrianna Dilal throwing a complete game, four-hit contest allowing just one unearned run and striking out a pair to earn her first win of the season. UND had a quartet of players pound out hits, capped by
Jocelyn Kirk's pair of hits and two stolen bases.
Chevelle Sartin was the key to the offense in the win, driving in both runs with a 1-for-2 day at the plate along with a sacrifice fly.
G2: North Dakota 2, Southern 1
It was another game defined by pitching, as Jones tossed a no-hitter and surrendered just a single, unearned run in another 2-1 win by the Hawks over Southern to close out the day.
Jones was nearly perfect, walking one and hitting two batters, but the junior struck out nine hitters over the seven innings to notch the first no-hitter of her career at UND.
UND got some strong showing from its veteran hitters as well, with
Ashlynn Uvila going a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate and a pair of stolen bases while
Jailene Carpio and Sartin also had multi-hit performances in the win.
North Dakota returns to action on Saturday with a pair of contests in Jackson, Miss. First, the Fighting Hawks will battle Jackson State at 11 a.m. before closing the day with Eastern Illinois at 1.
