Fighting Hawks' Season Ends in Omaha, 75-72

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of North Dakota exchanged seven leads in the second half with Omaha at Baxter Arena but were unable to make it eight as the Mavericks took the season finale, 75-72. The win clinches the final spot in The Summit League Tournament for the Mavericks and ends UND's season.

The Fighting Hawks (2-19, 2-13 Summit) shot 43-percent from the field on a 25-for-58 effort, while UNO (4-11, 3-7 Summit) was 28-for-59 for a 47-percent clip. Megan Zander led North Dakota with 23 points, while Kacie Borowicz added 21 points as the sophomore duo combined for a 59-percent field goal percentage. Omaha's Claire Killian also scored 23 points.

UND led the entire first half, leading by as much as 11 in the second period. At the final media timeout of the opening half, the Hawks 33-22 advantage was the game's largest. Both Zander and Borowicz reached double figures in the opening frame as UND only committed seven turnovers in the half.

The Hawks improved its turnover number in the second half, reducing it to six while forcing eight Maverick turnovers. However, a slow third period lifted UNO out of its deficit and gave the Mavs their first lead of the game with a minute left in the third, 51-49.

UND answered with a 50-percent shooting performance and outscored Omaha in the period, 23-22, as Zander led the Hawks with eight points in the fourth period. Jaclyn Jarnot was the University of North Dakota's top distributor in the quarter, dishing three assists.

Despite North Dakota leading the point tally in the quarter, Omaha was über efficient with a 60-percent field goal percentage in the final period of action, making eight of 13 attempts.
