GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota (2-8, 2-6 Summit) posted a .370 hitting percentage in the second set against Summit League leaders Kansas City (9-1, 9-1 Summit), battling with the Roos until the end as KC won the match and the series, 17-25, 21-25, 18-25.
Sara Antic led the Fighting Hawks with 10 kills with eight digs, while
Darian Chwialkowski recorded 18 digs.
Lexi Ahrens posted a .300 hitting percentage with nine kills and a service ace to lead UND with 12 points.
After Kansas City set the tone in the first set with a 25-17 first set victory, North Dakota reversed its fortune in the second set and overpowered the Roos with 10 kills, a .370 hitting percentage, and four blocks in the frame.
UND and KC traded blows throughout the set, remaining within two points of each other up until the setpoint, where the Roos closed the frame with a 25-21 triumph to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Despite the loss in the set, all eyes were on Antic, who registered five kills on nine swings in the frame to lead North Dakota.
UND opened the final set with authority as Ahrens blocked a KC attack to bring energy and momentum to the bench. However, KC was unshaken by the Fighting Hawks rally cries as the Roos took advantage of North Dakota errors in the frame to win the set and the match with a 25-18 third frame.
The Fighting Hawks will return to action on Friday, March 5 at 1 p.m., hosting Denver for a weekend series with the Pioneers.
