North Dakota drops pair to close THE Spring Games

LEESBURG, Fla. -- The University of North Dakota softball team dropped a pair of contests on Sunday to close out action at THE Spring Games down in Florida with a 1-4 record.

FGCU 2, North Dakota 1
In the opener against Florida Gulf Coast, the Fighting Hawks carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth, but back-to-back runs by the Eagles in the final two innings proved to be the difference in a 2-1 loss.

Jannay Jones was fantastic in the circle, tossing a complete game and surrendering only those pair of runs while striking out five and not issuing a free pass. The junior drops to 2-2 on the season despite her strong performance.

Alexys Campos did the damage at the top of the order for the green and white, pounding out two of the four hits for UND on the game while Madi Moore drew a walk and scored the run for the Hawks. Izzy Haslett also reached base a pair of times, earning a free pass as well as driving home the lone run of the game for UND with an RBI single in the top of the second.

Middle Tennessee State 4, North Dakota 0
The Blue Raiders received solid pitching and rode a trio of runs in the first inning to capture a 4-0 win over UND in the day's finale. The Hawks couldn't get much going on offense against the MTSU pitcher, collecting only two hits and reaching on an error.

An error by UND in the bottom of the first was the difference in the contest, leading to three runs in the opening frame before Adrianna Dilal settled down to complete five innings of work and allowed only two earned runs.

North Dakota returns to action on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Florida A&M beginning at 3 p.m. from Tallahassee, Fla.
