GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota will be playing football into May. For the first time in program history, the No. 7 Fighting Hawks will play in the FCS quarterfinals against No. 1 James Madison on Sunday at 5 p.m. from Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, Va. Fans can watch the contest on ESPN2 with Matt Barrie and Mike Golic Jr. on the call or tune into the Home of Economy Radio Network with Jack Michaels and Tom Dosch.
 
UND made Missouri State's first appearance in the FCS playoffs since 1990 a rather short stay, handing the Bears their worst loss in postseason history, 44-10, last Saturday at the Alerus Center in the opening round. The 34-point margin of victory was the worst for the Bears against an FCS opponent this season and improved the Fighting Hawks to 11-1 inside the Alerus Center in the postseason.  
 
The Fighting Hawks were dominant on all sides of the ball, scoring a touchdown on offense, defense and special teams in the win. It marked the first time since Oct. 28, 2017 at Portland State that UND has scored at least one score on all three sides of the ball.
 
UND will now turn its attention to the top-ranked team in the country, and No. 3 seed, James Madison. While the Dukes don't hold the overall No. 1 seed, the top ranking marks the sixth time that North Dakota has played a team in the postseason holding the No. 1 ranking in the polls. The green and white are 0-5 in those games, with two losses coming to Pittsburg State (1992, 2004) and three to Grand Valley State (2005, 2006, 2007).
