Peioria, Ill. – North Dakota Volleyball dropped a tightly contested second match of the day to Saint Louis (25-10, 25-22, 25-21) after falling to host Bradley (25-16, 25-14, 25-14) in the day's first match up.
Bradley 3, North Dakota 0
After trailing 10-4 in the first set, the Fighting Hawks rallied back to cut the deficit to one at 15-14 behind a double block by
Lexi Ahrens and
Ashlyn Olson. The Braves would go on to win the opening set 25-16.
The Hawks got back to back service aces from
Kortney Carney in the second set but it wasn't enough as the Braves led wire to wire to take the second stanza 25-14.
In the third, North Dakota jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with a kill from
Taylor Pribyl with an assist from
Madi Hart but were ultimately unable to hang on falling 25-14 in the final set.
Pribyl led the way with six kills on 14 swings with only one attach error hitting .357. The Hawks got four aces on the match, the aforementioned pair form Carney in the second and also one each from
Maddy Hornyak and Pribyl. Ahrens was in on six blocks include a solo stuff to lead a team effort that out blocked Bradley 7-6.
Saint Louis 3, North Dakota 0
A couple hours after finishing the first match of the day against host Bradley, North Dakota faced Saint Louis. North Dakota got off to a hot start leading 4-2 in the first after a double block from Olson and Ahrens, then held the same two point advantage at 5-3 after Ahrens put one away. The Bilikens would end up on top of the first set 25-10.
In the second set, the Hawks rebounded from a 6-0 hole to scratch and claw back within three at 10-7 following a termination from
Kelly Wahl. The deficit would bounce between three and six the rest of the way until the Hawks got within two at 24-22 after another double block from Olson and Ahrens. Saint Louis scored the next point to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Kearney started the third set off with a service ace. The Hawks mounted a furious rally to come back from down seven at 19-12 to cut it to one at 22-21 only to see Saint Louis score the final three points to claim the three set victory.
Ahrens paved the way with six kills.
McCallister Gayle contributed five kills. As a team the Hawks tallied four service aces.
North Dakota Volleyball returns to action tomorrow against Northern Colorado. It is the final non-conference match of the season for the Hawks.
