KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The North Dakota volleyball team resumed its Summit League slate Thursday as they headed to the City of Fountains and fell 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-14) to the Kansas City Roos. The Fighting Hawks were led in kills by Paige Barber with eight, assists by Elizabeth Norris with 12, and digs by Izzie McCormick with 14.
A block from McCallister Gayle gave UND their first lead of set one at 12-11, prior to that the set had been tied seven times. But the set would continue to seesaw back and forth as Kansas City would answer and go up 19-16. But the Fighting Hawks fought back and tied the set at 20 with a kill from Barber—one of her five in the frame. UND had the first setpoint as Barber combined with Kaycee O'Dell on a block but the Roos fought it off and their first setpoint, which UND fought off with a kill from Gayle to knot the set at 25. Kansas City got the next point, but O'Dell kept NoDak in the set with a kill. The Roos took the last two points to finish the set.
Momentum stayed with the home side early in the second set as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the green and white would fight back and tied the set at six with a block from Lauren Perugini. But the Roos answered and held off the Fighting Hawks for the rest of the frame to go up 2-0.
In the third set, Kansas City jumped out to an early lead but the Fighting Hawks rallied and took their first lead at 9-8 and then later at 10-9, but were unable to hold the lead as the Roos closed the match with 14 of the last 17 points.
Postgame Notes
· The loss snapped a two match winning streak in the series for North Dakota, and Kansas City retakes the series lead at 5-4.
· Perugini hit .286 in the match with six kills and committed no attack errors for the first time this season.
· Teagan Timperley's streak of 16 straight matches with double digit assists was snapped, her first career match not reaching ten assists.
· Norris finished three kills short of a triple-double with seven, to go along with 12 assists and 13 digs.
· Three players (Perugini, Gayle and Marissa Stockman) picked up a solo blocks.
