UND Distance Records Fall in Boston, Throwers Place in Brookings

BOSTON, Mass./BROOKINGS, S.D. – North Dakota took part in two meets on Saturday and came away with two new school records and seven improvements on the UND top-10 lists.

The distance crew made the most of their stay in Boston on Saturday. Yonca Kutluk shattered the school record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:13.27 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. She broke the record of Jessica Neva, who set the record at 16:49.35 at the 2004 NCAA Division II Championships.

Earlier in the day, Luke Labatte set the tone, taking third in the unseeded 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 14:08.71. With the PR, he beat his previous record by over 16 seconds.

In the women's 3,000 meters, both Conny Wohlfahrt and Eliana Malnourie ran personal bests that moved them into the UND top-10 list. Wohlfahrt clocked the second-fastest time in program history with a time of 9:43.53, while Malnourie had the fourth-fastest time in UND history with a time of 9:46.32. Wohlfahrt missed the school record time of 9:42.75 by less than a second.

Alec Nelson also entered the UND top-10 list on the men's side in the 3,000 meters with a PR of 8:24.87, moving to No. 5 in program history.

Jadyn Keeler and Jamie Burns were the last Fighting Hawks to take the track, and both posted improvements on their respective top-10 lists. Keeler recorded a personal-best time of 17:08.36 in the women's 5,000 meters, which moved her up to No. 4 in school history. In the men's 5,000 meters, Burns ran a time of 14:41.56 and entered the UND top-10 list at No. 7.

In Brookings, select Fighting Hawks participated in the invitational discus throw. Kenna Curry took fifth with a toss of 133-3 1/4 (40.62m). Haidyn Skeen, throwing in her first meet at UND, placed eighth with a mark of 119-8 (36.47m).

North Dakota will visit Fargo on Friday for the Dakota Alumni Invitational.

POST-MEET NOTES
* Yonca Kutluk and Luke Labatte became the first Fighting Hawks to break school records this season, each doing so in their respective sections of the 5,000 meters in Boston on Saturday.
* A total of nine improvements were posted to the UND top-10 lists this weekend.
* Justice Dick claimed the lone event title for UND this weekend, winning the 800 meters at the SDSU Holiday Invitational on Friday.
* The Fighting Hawks placed 11 times in the two meets over the opening weekend of NCAA track and field competition.
