VERMILLION, S.D. – After scoring 14 of North Dakota's 79 points at the Summit League Indoor Championships, freshman
Tiffanie Magnusson was named the Newcomer of the Championships at the Summit League Indoor Championships award ceremony at the conclusion of the meet on Sunday evening.
Magnusson became a two-time All-Summit League performer on Saturday, earning the silver medal in the pentathlon and later getting the bronze in the long jump.
She earned the silver medal and all-conference honors in the pentathlon with 3,814 points. That point total now ranks No. 3 at UND in its pentathlon history. Magnusson built a massive lead early over the rest of the field, highlighted by her showing in the long jump, where she shattered the school record. She broke the long jump record with a personal-best leap of 19-7 1/2 (5.98m), beating the record of
Malene Kollberg and
Elise Ulseth, who shared it at 19-3 1/4 (5.87m). Magnusson also recorded PR's in the high jump (5-3 1/4, 1.61m) and shot put (39-5 1/4, 12.02m). Her personal-best in the high jump was the second-best mark of the pentathlon high jump at the championships.
Saturday night, Magnusson returned to the DakotaDome and took part in the long jump. She finished with the bronze medal and All-Summit League status in that event with a leap of 19-1 1/4 (5.82m) to add six more points to UND's total.
Coming into the championships, North Dakota had the No. 7 pentathlon team in the USTFCCCA #EventSquad Rankings. At the conclusion of the pentathlon on Saturday and with the help of Magnusson's personal-best marks, the Fighting Hawks sat No. 4 nationally as a pentathlon team at the conclusion of the meet.
Along with her UND top-10 marks in the pentathlon and high jump set at the Summit League Indoor Championships, Magnusson also owns the No. 7 time in the 60-meter hurdles in school history with a time of 9.03, which she set at New Mexico earlier this season.
