BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The University of North Dakota women's golf team turned in a stunning pair of days at the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State, from Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
As a team, UND finished with a school-record score for a 54-hole round of 905, sitting seven shots ahead of the previous record set last year at the same tournament. The score was highlighted by a record-low mark of 289, with all five golfers posting individual marks of 75-or-lower, to help the Fighting Hawks finish in 11th overall.
Individually, NoDak was led by
Pemika Ponlamuangdee, who tied for 15th overall with a three-round score of 221 (+5). The senior was lights out in the second round, finishing with a team-best score of 70 (-2) to rise up the leaderboard. In that middle round, Ponlamuangdee rallied from a tough second hole to post birdies on four of her next five holes before closing with another trio of birdies on 15, 16 and 17.
Erin Johnson also shined in the second round of play, posting a 73 (+1) with two birdies and 13 pars en route to an overall score of 229 (+13) and in a tie for 41st. Teammates
Emersyn Walker and
Carrie Carpenter each tied for 44th overall with a 230 (+14), with Carpenter firing all three rounds in the 70s and Walker having the second-best 18-hole score of the day with a 72 (E) in the second round.
Morgan Hetletved rounded out the scoring for the Hawks with a strong final two rounds to finish with a 234 (+18). The Grand Forks, N.D., native's tournament was highlighted by a par-4 eagle on the final hole of the second round to close just +3 for the day.
North Dakota returns to action on Apr. 3-4 for the Western Illinois Intercollegiate at TPC Deere Run.
