NOTES: Hawks fly to Lexington for Game 1 battle against Lancers

The University of North Dakota women's basketball team takes on the California Baptist University Lancers on Friday March 17th at 4pm in the opening round of the Women's Basketball Invitational(WBI) in Lexington, K.Y.

Series History vs. The Lancers
This will be the first time these two teams have met in history. Cal Baptist is a new comer to DI transitioning in 2018. 

Cal Baptist Lancers Preview 
The Lancers, hailing from Riverside California finished third in the WAC and punctuated their postseason with tournament wins over Utah Tech and a semifinal upset of Regular Season Champion Stephen F Austin before falling to Southern Utah in the Conference Tournament Championship game. Their offense is lead by Trinity San Antonio ( averaging 14.3 points per game in 25 games played ), and Grace Schmidt ( 13 points per game in 31 games played). The Lancers play strong team defense, averaging 9.8 steals per game and forcing an average 17.1 turnovers per game from their opponents.

North Dakota last time at WBI history 

This is the first time the Fighting Hawks have played in this tournament. Their last and only other appearance was against the Seattle Redhawks in 2012.

-Alyssa Wall was the leading scorer for the Sioux that day with 16 points ( 8-13)

-The game was the last one that UND Women's basketball played in as members of the Great West Conference.

-4020 is how many days between the WBI game against Seattle and the first round matchup against the Lancers.

- Program alum Emily Evers made her postseason debut as a redshirt freshman off the bench contributing nine rebounds and three points in 15 minutes.
