SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Elise Ulseth competed in the long jump, while Kenna Curry threw both in the hammer throw and shot put at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Thursday.

Ulseth finished 33rd in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 19-4 3/4 (5.91m). Her finish was a six-spot improvement from her 39th place (19-2 1/2, 5.85m) finish at the meet in 2022. Ulseth remains the only Fighting Hawk in UND's Division I history to compete in the long jump at the NCAA Regional.

The Norwegian native came into the meet as the No. 44 seed after a season-best leap of 20-2 1/4 (6.15m) at the Summit League Outdoor Championships. That jump allowed Ulseth to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Round and finish with the silver medal at the conference championships.

Ulseth will conclude her season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon on June 9-10 in Austin, Texas. She qualified for the National Championships with her point total of 5,676 at the Bryan Clay Invitational earlier this season and will enter the meet as the No. 20 seed in the heptathlon.

Thursday afternoon, Curry finished 39th in the hammer throw with a toss of 181-5 (55.30m), becoming the fifth North Dakota thrower in school history on the women's side to compete in the hammer throw at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

She entered the meet as the No. 43 seed and finished four spots better than where she was projected to finish coming into the meet. Curry had a stellar season throwing the hammer, highlighted by her third-place finish at the Summit League Outdoor Championships with a mark of 192-2 (58.57m), which moved her up to No. 4 in school history in the event.

Later in the evening at the NCAA West Preliminary Round, Curry returned to Hornet Stadium to throw in the shot put. She finished 46th with a mark of 45-2 1/4 (13.77m), becoming just the second Fighting Hawk in program history on the women's side to toss the shot put at the NCAA Regional, joining Katelyn Weber, who threw at the meet in both 2017 and 2018.

Curry qualified for the meet in the shot put with her throw of 51-9 1/4 (15.78m) at the Summit League Outdoor Championships two weeks ago. That throw not only held up to qualify her for the meet and made her a Summit League champion in the event, but also destroyed the school record of 50-4 (15.34m), set by Weber at the 2018 NDSU Tune-Up.

UND will wrap up its stay at the NCAA West Preliminary Round on Friday. Austin Wolf will begin the meet for North Dakota, taking part in the high jump at 4:30 p.m. (CT). Luke Labatte will be the final Fighting Hawk to compete and will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 7:40 p.m. (CT).
