BOZEMAN, Mont. – The North Dakota volleyball team closed out their season opening tournament Saturday afternoon against Pac-12 opponent Oregon State, falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-14) to the Beavers. Paige Barber and Elizabeth Norris tied for the team lead with six kills, Katy Riviere led the team with ten assists, Norris led with nine digs and tied with Jarolin de los Santos Lugo with three blocks.
UND started the first set hot as they took four of the first six points—with Barber getting two kills in the stretch. OSU would come back and take a 6-5 lead before Norris and Lugo assisted on a block to tie the set at six. But OSU went on a 7-0 run to gain the upper hand in the set. Later, with OSU up 18-10, UND fought back with a 5-0 run with two kills from Lauren Perugini and one from Lugo. Kennedy Nelson capped it off with her first career ace in her first career match to pull the Hawks within three. But from there the Hawks would get no closer as OSU took the set.
In the second set OSU jumped out to a quick lead and UND was unable to put a run together at any point as the Beavers controlled the set start to finish.
After falling down 2-0 to open the third set, Norris got back-to-back killed to even things early. But a 5-0 run from OSU gave the Beavers a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the set.
