CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After getting consecutive wins for the first time this season, the North Dakota volleyball team looked for their third straight win as they took on Missouri Valley preseason favorite Northern Iowa on Thursday night. Despite a determined effort from the Hawks, the Panthers won 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19).
UND started out hot in the first set, getting three of the first four points; punctuated with a block from
Paige Barber and
Kaycee O'Dell. Throughout the frame neither team would get more than two points ahead of the other until the final play which gave UNI a three-point win in the set.
Much like the seesawing first set, the second began with the teams sharing the first six points equally. A kill from
Elizabeth Norris gave UND a 4-3 lead, and from there UNI took a lead and would not relinquish it for the rest of the set.
In the middle of the third set, UND reeled off a 5-0 run that included two kills from Barber and an ace from
Teagan Timperley to draw within seven points at 13-6. It was part of an 18-12 run to end the third set, but the hole was too big for the Hawks to dig out of as UNI took the match.
