CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The North Dakota volleyball team capped off its nonconference schedule Saturday as they took on nationally ranked Dayton to close out the Northern Iowa Tournament. The Flyers proved too much for the Hawks as they won 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-20).
Paige Barber got the first point of the match with a kill, but from there Dayton seized control of the set with a 12-1 run that put UND in a hole they could not dig out of. From there Norris and Lauren Perugini got back-to-back kills but eight was as close as the Hawks would come the rest of the set.
The second set started tight as they were tied 3-3 after six points, but a 7-0 run from Dayton put them up for good in the frame. The Hawks were able to pull within six but could not get any closer as Dayton went up 2-0.
Set number three was the best of the match for the Hawks, with the score being tied four times in the early going. But from a 6-6 tie Dayton scored seven of eight and took a lead that UND couldn't close the gap on. A kill from Kaycee O'Dell later in the set made it 16-13, but UND could not get any closer than three points the rest of the way.
