Fighting Hawks held in check by Golden Eagles, 71-55

TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota women's basketball team fell in Summit League action, 71-55, to Oral Roberts Thursday night at the Mabee Center.

Following a first half where the score stayed within single digits throughout, the Golden Eagles began to pull away in the third quarter, as they outscored the Fighting Hawks 26-13. ORU shot .474 percent from the field and held the Hawks to .333 percent with 10 turnovers that led to 13 ORU points. After a 6-0 UND, fueled by four points from Mikayla Aumer and a Kiyah Hurst bucket, the Hawks cut the ORU lead to 35-34 three minutes into the third. The Golden Eagles, however, outscored the Hawks 20-7 over the final seven minutes and closed out the quarter with a 12-0 run.

The Fighting Hawks held Oral Roberts to 6-of-22 shooting in the first quarter but surrendered nine offensive rebounds that turned into six ORU points. Kiyah Hurst scored the first five points for the Hawks and connected on one of UND's two three-point baskets in the opening 10 minutes. Borowicz knocked down a three-pointer to take a 10-9 lead, but the Hawks would fail to connect on a triple again, finishing the game 2-of-15 from deep.

After being outrebounded in the first quarter 16-10, the Fighting Hawks responded in the second period by controlling the rebounding battle 12-9 without surrendering an offensive rebound. Four straight points from Hurst, followed by six in a row for Borowicz gave NoDak a 28-24 advantage with 1:47 remaining in the half. The Golden Eagles took a 29-28 lead into the intermission by scoring the final five points of the half. Both Borowicz and Hurst reached double-figures in the first half with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

ORU grabbed its largest lead of the night, 62-41, with 8:49 left in the final frame. UND cut the lead to 13 following a Sammiyah Hoskin bucket but the Golden Eagles would hold a double-digit lead throughout the fourth on their way to a 71-55 win.
