NO TOUCH DOWN IN TEXAS
North Dakota's trip to San Antonio never developed as inclement weather in the Dallas-Fort Worth area led to the cancellation of flights including the Hawk's scheduled departure on Friday. The two sides, who were already scheduled for a home-and-home this season, will now play it within a 72-hour window as the Roadrunners and Hawks will square off in San Antonio (Dec. 13) two days before the December 15 tipoff inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.Â
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday evening's match up will be the eighth between the two programs and the first since a 30-point home victory for the Fighting Hawks on December 19, 2014. UND carries an unbeaten 7-0 record all-time against the Blue Hawks in a series that first began in Dickinson in 1932. The two sides met on a neutral hardwood in 1948 during the UND-hosted Red River Valley Tournament and have played on the Hawks' home floor in the previous five match ups. It will be just the third meeting between the two programs since UND became an NCAA Division I member in 2008-09.Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Hawks met Colorado State for just the second time in program history in Monday night's season opener from inside the tight confines of Moby Arena. Fifteen first-half turnovers proved too much for UND in the 82-56 loss to a CSU team that has made appearances in two of the past three NCAA Tournaments.Â
Out of the under-8 media, Colorado State crafted an 8-0 run and coupled their offensive successes with a three-plus minute scoring drought from the Hawks which aided CSU's lead in blooming to 14 at 31-17 at the final media stoppage before the intermission. Prior to the host run, UND was trailing by just two possessions. North Dakota showcased a much improved effort in the second half as the Rams outscored the Hawks by just nine points, while the visitors committed only six turnovers in the final twenty minutes.
CAPITAL CITY RETURN
Game #2 in year #6 of the
Paul Sather Era of UND men's basketball sends the Hawks west to Bismarck to take on NAIA Dickinson State. The action marks the Fighting Hawks' first trip to the state capital since December 4, 2007, its final season as a Division II member, when UND defeated UMary 74-55.Â
Tuesday's action not only signifies the program's return, but the return of three former Bismarck prep standouts in former Bismarck HS Demon
Treysen Eaglestaff and former Century HS Patriots
Anthony Doppler and
Ryan Erikson.Â
Eaglestaff, North Dakota's Mr. Basketball in 2021-22, rewrote the Bismarck High School record books with seven school records, including career points (1,634), career three-point makes (230), three-pointers made in a season (105), single-season points scored (774), most points in a single game (52), field goals made in a single game (18) and most three-pointers made in a game (10).

He followed that up with an all-state accolade as a senior.
Erikson was a first-team all-conference performer as a junior after leading WDA in rebounding with 11.0 per game and averaging 15.6 points per game for a season double-double. He capped off his prep career with first team all-state honors in his final season with the Patriots.Â
