GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota sophomore
Lauren Perugini registered her sixth double-double of the season with 14 kills (.444) and 10 digs, but the Fighting Hawks dropped a three-set affair to Kansas City on Thursday night inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The loss drops UND to 9-16 overall and 2-12 in Summit League play.
Kansas City used a .297 attack clip in the opening frame to take a 1-0 set lead as Kaia Dunford led the Roos with five kills. UND hit .194 in the first set as Perugini hit .600 with six terminations. Back-to-back kills from freshman
Vanessa Washington brought UND to within two points of the Roos' lead with the second pulling the Hawks to 17-15. KC closed on an 8-5 run behind a 4-1 start to distance themselves from the host down the stretch.
The second set saw five tied scores and three lead changes with UND holding its last lead at 10-10. The Hawks battled to a 23-21 score as Perugini terminated, but a pair of Sydney Henry kills ended the frame for the Roos.
In the third set, UND trailed 5-4 on the heels of a termination from Perugini and used a 4-0 run down 15-9 to pull within two points as freshman
Vanessa Imoh delivered a kill. The Hawks would get as close as three at 17-14 down the stretch, before the Roos closed on an 8-3 run to end the match.
The Hawks play host to league-leading (RV) South Dakota State on Saturday at 11 a.m. It will be senior day inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center as four Fighting Hawks will play for the final time on their home court. Graduate setter

- The Roos registered eight service aces, while the Hawks did not record an ace in a match for just the second time this season
- Perugini's double-double is the eighth of her career and came behind an attack clip of .444 which is her second-best hitting clip in a double-double effort

- Senior Jarolin de los Santos Lugo added a block to her season total to move three denials and an ace away from the program's first 100-block, 30-ace season
- With a team-best 17 assists, graduate setter Elizabeth Norris is now just 13 helpers away from becoming the tenth player in program history to reach 2,000 career assists
- Senior defensive specialist Maddy Hornyak recorded seven digs and is 41 away from 1,000 for her career
