Fighting Hawks drop home contest to Montana

UND led by Fatima Ibrahim's 17 career-high points

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women's basketball team fell to Montana, 71-59, on Thursday night, dropping to a 2-2 record on the season.

The Fighting Hawks started strong with a five-point run, holding Montana scoreless for the first two minutes. UND led in scoring until 7:22, when Montana's Waddington hit a three-pointer, giving the Lady Griz the lead for the rest of the game. Walker Demers and Mikayla Aumer contributed five points each, accounting for 10 of UND's 14 points in the first quarter.

UND struggled in the second quarter, getting outscored 24-14. Fatima Ibrahim led the way with six points from two field goals and two free throws. The Hawks entered halftime trailing 46-28, their largest deficit of the game.

UND rallied after the break, outscoring Montana 18-13 in the third quarter to close the gap to 59-46. The Hawks shot 41.2% (7-of-17) from the field, while Montana shot just 26.7% (4-of-15). Kiera Pemberton led the Hawks with eight points, including three field goals and two free throws.

The fourth quarter saw Ibrahim finish with a career-high 17 points, hitting 2-of-2 from the field and 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. UND outscored Montana 13-12 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.

The Fighting Hawks will look to bounce back in their first road game of the season at Western Kentucky on Sunday, November 24.
