GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women's basketball team fell to Wyoming in a tough 73-41 loss on Saturday afternoon in Laramie, Wyo. The loss drops the Fighting Hawks to 5-8 on the season.
In the first quarter, the Hawks struggled to find their rhythm, shooting 33.3% (4-of-12) from the field and managing just 11 points.
Walker Demers provided an early spark with a couple of baskets, but Wyoming established a 16-11 lead for the Cowgirls.
Wyoming extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring UND 18-10 to take a 34-21 advantage into halftime. North Dakota's struggles from beyond the arc (1-of-8 in the half) compounded their offensive challenges.
The Fighting Hawks showed signs of life in the third quarter, shooting 53.3% (8-of-15) from the field and matching Wyoming's physicality in the paint.
Fatima Ibrahim went a perfect 2-of-2 from the field to contribute four points. However, turnovers proved costly, and the Cowgirls held a 56-38 lead heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw Wyoming close out the game with a 17-3 run.
Walker Demers recorded the three points for the Hawks off one basket and one free throw.
The Fighting Hawks will take a break before entering the conference play at Omaha on January 2 at 7 p.m.

- Walker Demers led UND with 13 points and five rebounds, going 5-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
- Nevaeh Ferrara Horne contributed six points and four rebounds.
- The Fighting Hawks shot 42.9% (18-of-42) from the field but struggled from three-point range, hitting just 15.4% (2-of-13) compared to the Cowgirls' 43.1% (25-of-58) from the field and 22.7% (5-of-22) from the arc.
- North Dakota outrebounded Wyoming 31-27.
- The Cowgirls shot an impressive 94.7% (18-of-19) compared to UND's 75% (3-of-4).
