PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The North Dakota softball team fell 11-3 at Prairie View A&M Tuesday, playing the first of two games in South Texas before heading to the Cowgirl Classic II at McNeese State this weekend. After scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, PVAMU scored 11 unanswered runs to win the game.

Izzy Haslett singled to short with one out in the top of the first inning, followed by a single second by Cassie Castaneda to put two on. With two outs Madison Pederson reached on an error to load the bases. Johanna Rodriguez followed with a single up the middle the scored Haslett and Castaneda to make it 2-0. Katie Joten followed with a fielder's choice that brought Pederson in but ended the inning.

PVAMU got two runs back in the bottom of the first, then scored five in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Breanna Reyna got the win while Makaela Carr took the loss.

The Fighting Hawks will play at Houston Christian on Thursday before a weekend tournament at McNeese State starting on Friday.

Postgame Notes 

·         Rodriguez tallied multiple RBIs in a game for the first time in her career.

·         Castaneda finished with two hits, her second game of the season with multiple hits.

·         Pederson and Haslett each had a hit and run in the game, while Castaneda had two hits with a run scored.

·         No Fighting Hawk struck out in the game, the first time that happened since March 10, 2023 against Kennesaw State.
