North Dakota falls to Jackrabbits at Frost Arena, 103-47

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota women's basketball team fell 107-47 to South Dakota State Thursday night in Frost Arena.  
 
After three early turnovers, the Fighting Hawks offense settled in at Frost Arena and knocked down five of their next six attempts from the field to pull within one point of the Jacks, 13-12. The Jacks, however, would answer with a 10-0 run to go up 23-12 and would carry a 25-16 into the second quarter. After scoring 40 points in UND's last contest, Kacie Borowicz picked up right where she left off in the first quarter with 12 of UND's 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
 
Borowicz led all scorers with 23 points on the night and moved into the No. 2 spot in the UND record book for made free throws in a career. Pemberton had a team-high seven rebounds and chipped in six points.
 
SDSU outscored UND 17-9 in the second quarter behind a defensive performance that held the Hawks to 4-of-18 from the field. On the other end, the Jacks shot .636 percent from the field with a pair of three-pointers and headed to half with a 42-25 lead. Boroiwcz paced the Hawks in the opening half with 18 points. Kiera Pemberton and Fatima Ibrahim were the other Hawks to find the bottom of the net with four and three points, respectively.
 
The Jackrabbits exploded for 35 third quarter points behind 7-of-12 three-point shooting and .706 percent from the field. The Hawks were held to 4-of-12 from the field in the frame and were 0-3 from deep. The Jacks offensive outburst continued into the fourth quarter, as they shot 10-for-13 from the field to close out their win. Pemberton pulled down five of her seven boards in the second half, and eight Hawks scored in the final 20 minutes.
 
The Fighting Hawks will continue their trek down I-29 on Saturday when they face South Dakota at 2:00 p.m. in their regular season finale.

  • With three free throws made in tonight's game, Kacie Borowicz moved to No. 2 on the UND career free throws made list and now has 469 in a green and white jersey
  • Borowicz now sits 17 points away from 2,000 career points
  • Kiera Pemberton has now scored the 10th most points scored by a freshman in UND history, and with one more point to move to ninth overall
  • SDSU extends its win streak to 16 over UND
  • The Jacks won the rebounding battle, 45-26
