FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota won a pair of individual titles, placed 21 times and recorded three improvements to the UND top-10 list on the final day of the Bison Open on Saturday.
Jerzie Finstad was the first Fighting Hawk to win an event on day two of the Bison Open, claiming the 400-meter crown in a time of 56.03. Her time set a new Bison Open meet record in the event, breaking the record of Hanneke Oosterwegel of Northern State, who set it at 56.39 at the 2017 Bison Open.
Towards the end of the meet,
Kenna Curry won the women's shot put title with a toss of 47-9 1/4 (14.56m).
Eve Goldstein was the runner-up in 46-0 3/4 (14.04m), while
Julia Matthews placed seventh with a throw of 41-8 1/2 (12.71m).
Katelyn Rath, competing unattached, also threw and was eighth with a throw of 41-4 1/2 (12.61m).
Malene Kollberg was the runner-up in the long jump and improved her No. 3 mark on the UND top-10 list with a leap of 19-4 (5.89m).
Tiffanie Magnusson was also in the event and took fourth with a jump of 18-9 3/4 (5.73m).
Earlier in the meet, the Hawks went 4-5-6 in the women's 60-meter hurdles. Kollberg was fourth with a time of 8.85, followed by
Hinewai Knowles in fifth (9.07) and Magnusson in sixth (9.29). The trio of Kollberg (8.89),
Hinewai Knowles (9.11) and Magnusson (9.28) each qualified for the final with their times from the preliminary round two hours earlier.
Justina Esangbedo and
Claire Leach both made their marks on the UND top-10 list in the women's triple jump. Esangbedo posted the No. 5 jump in school history and placed fourth with a leap of 38-2 1/4 (11.64m). Leach recorded the No. 10 mark in UND history and took eighth with a jump of 36-11 3/4 (11.27m).
Micah Bruggeman finished third in his first collegiate 800 meters with a time of 1:56.36, he was trailed by
Braxton Middaugh, who placed seventh in 1:58.45.
In the men's high jump,
Maguire Petersen took fourth (6-4 3/4, 1.95m), while
Carson Kunz tied for eighth (6-0 3/4, 1.85m).
Harris Maclean recorded a personal-best height of 15-1 1/2 (4.61m) and finished fifth in the pole vault.
Caleb Severson placed six in the men's 60 meters with a time of 7.13. He automatically qualified for the final by winning his heat (7.17) earlier in the meet.
Alimath Salou was seventh in the women's 60-meter final in 8.14. She ran a time of 8.09 in prelims to qualify for the final.
Jory Vasek finished seventh in the men's 400 meters with a time of 50.91.
Maxwell Roller competed in his first collegiate triple jump and took seventh with a mark of 43-3 3/4 (13.20m).
Elijah Beach, a recent addition from the UND football team, placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 48-8 1/4 (14.84m).
North Dakota will split up for a pair of meets next week, competing in Boston at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Feb. 9-10) and in Brookings at the SDSU Indoor Classic (Feb. 9-10).
