BROOKINGS, S.D./BOSTON, Mass. – The North Dakota throwers and distance squad were in action on Friday in two meets and did not disappoint, adding eight improvements to the UND top-10 lists, a school record and also won an event crown. Kenna Curry was the highlight in Brookings with a national mark and the weight throw title, while Yonca Kutluk broke her own school record in the 5,000 meters in Boston.

On Friday night at the SDSU Indoor Classic, Curry won the invitational weight throw title with a personal-best toss of 71-6 1/4 (21.80m), moving her up to No. 2 in school history in the event. Her toss was not only the second-best throw in UND history, but also currently ranks No. 12 in the NCAA.

Eve Goldstein also made her mark on the UND top-10 list in the invitational weight throw, recording the No. 10 throw in school history and placing fourth with a toss of 58-4 1/2 (17.79m). Teammate Julia Matthews took fifth in the invitational weight throw with a PR mark of 57-9 (17.60m).

Earlier in the evening, Goldstein and Matthews also took part in the invitational shot put. Goldstein was the runner-up with a distance of 46-8 (14.22m), while Matthews placed fifth with a personal best of 45-2 1/2 (13.78m).

Elijah Beach rounded out the UND throwers that placed at the SDSU Indoor Classic and finished eighth in the invitational shot put with a PR toss of 49-9 3/4 (15.18m).

North Dakota also competed in the rarely contested 4x800-meter relay in Brookings and finished third with a time of 9:34.68 for the No. 8 time in program history. The relay team consisted of Brenna Barnick, Paris Hoverson, Maggie Dervis and Courtney Werner.

The Fighting Hawks will not return to action at the SDSU Classic on Saturday as originally scheduled, as all UND throwers that were expected to compete on Saturday were added to the invitational sections on Friday night.

Kutluk led the Fighting Hawks at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, breaking her own school record in the invitational section of the 5,000 meters with a PR time of 16:07.70 on Friday night.

Earlier in Boston, Jadyn Keeler and Eliana Malnourie helped UND get off to a quick start, both competing in the unseeded 5,000 meters. Keeler ran the second-fastest time in school history with a PR of 16:48.97 to place third. Malnourie finished less than five seconds later and took fifth with a personal-best time of 16:53.12, which was good for the fifth-fastest time in program history.

Less than an hour later, Frida Giersdorff took the track and posted the No. 9 time in UND history in the 3,000 meters with a PR time of 9:56.24.

Jerzie Finstad ran in the 400 meters and improved her No. 3 time on the UND top-10 list with a personal best of 55.58.

The Fighting Hawks will wrap-up the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday with the first distance events of the day beginning at 8 a.m. (CT).
