OMAHA, Neb. – The North Dakota softball team fell 9-1 to Creighton on Sunday, playing only a single game after cold temperatures delayed the start by two hours and made it so only one game was played.
The Blue Jays got a run across in each of the first two innings, and then two more in the third. NoDak got on the board in the top of the fourth as Katie Joten led off with a walk, then moved to second on a groundout and scored on a single to right by Johanna Rodriguez. Later in the inning a single from Katelyn Neumayer loaded the bases with one out but the threat was ended on a double-play: a flyout and then the runner from third base was thrown out at home trying to score.
A pair of RBI doubles added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-1 and then two more runs in the bottom of the fifth sealed the game for Creighton.
Natalia Puchino got the win for Creighton while Camryn Lasota took the loss.
The Fighting Hawks will open a three-game set against Montana in Missoula starting on Friday.
