OXFORD, Miss. – Three North Dakota throwers took part in the hammer throw at the Ole Miss Classic on Friday afternoon.
Kenna Curry led the group and placed sixth with a personal-best throw of 207-2 (63.14m), which moved her up to No. 2 in school history. Her new lifetime best is already better than the minimum mark for the Olympic trials, which is 206-8 (63.00m).
Curry entered the day with a PR mark of 192-2 (58.57m), which ranked No. 4 in school history at the time. Her first throw of the outdoor season (199-11, 60.94m) improved that mark and moved her up to No. 2. She then bettered that throw with a PR toss of 207-2 (63.14m) on her third attempt and that mark held up to place sixth in the event.
Julia Matthews also competed in the hammer throw and had a personal-best toss of 151-10 (46.28m), which improved her previous best of 146-3 (44.58m).
Kaylynn Red Tomahawk finished right behind her with a mark of 151-6 (46.18m).
