Kollberg & Magnusson Open Heptathlon at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas – The first four events of the heptathlon at the Texas Relays began on Wednesday, with a pair of North Dakota heptathletes taking part in the event. At the conclusion of day one, Malene Kollberg is ninth with 3,130 points and Tiffanie Magnusson sits 13th with 3,062 points.

Kollberg opened the day with the 100-meter hurdles and had a time of 14.33 points for her first 932 points of the meet. Her time was the seventh quickest of the day in the 100-meter hurdles. She then tied for eighth in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 5-5 (1.65m) for 795 additional points. Kollberg rounded out day one with a throw of 34-7 1/2 (10.55m) in the shot put and a time of 25.55 in the 200 meters.

Magnusson recorded personal bests in three of the four heptathlon events. She put down a day-high total of 856 points in the 100-meter hurdles to start the day with a PR time of 14.89. Magnusson followed up that performance and tied for fourth in the high jump with a personal-best height of 5-6 (1.68m), which moved her onto the UND top-10 list and tied for the No. 9 clearance in school history. She wrapped up day one with a toss of 34-7 1/2 (10.55m) in the shot put and then added her final 787 points of the day to her total in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.22.

Kollberg and Magnusson will conclude the heptathlon at the Texas Relays on Thursday, with the first heptathlon event beginning at 10:30 a.m. Select members from the UND distance team will also compete at the Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Track Classic this Friday and Saturday.
