Kollberg & Magnusson Climb UND Top-10 List at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas – Two North Dakota heptathletes concluded competition at the Texas Relays on Thursday afternoon. Malene Kollberg took ninth with a personal-best total of 5,202 points, while Tiffanie Magnusson was 15th with 4,995 points. Both Kollberg and Magnusson climbed the UND top-10 list in the heptathlon with their point totals.

Kollberg was ninth with a PR total of 5,202 points and improved her No. 3 heptathlon total in school history. She entered the day with 3,130 points and got off to a good start with the sixth-best long jump mark of the morning with a leap of 18-7 3/4 (5.67m). She then posted a javelin throw of 112-0 (34.14m) before finishing the day with an 800-meter time of 2:24.43. Her time of 2:24.43 in the 800 meters was good for a day-high event total of 764 points, which helped her climb the UND top-10 list in the heptathlon.

Magnusson took 15th with 4,995 points and entered the UND top-10 list with the No. 5 heptathlon point total in school history. She came into the day with 3,062 points after recording PRs in three events on Wednesday, including her personal-best in the high jump (5-6, 1.68m), which tied her for the No. 9 clearance in school history. On Thursday, Magnusson picked up her first 712 points of the day in the long jump with a leap of 18-2 1/4 (5.54m) and ended the day with the javelin (93-9, 28.58m) and 800 meters (2:23.94). Her 800-meter time earned her a day-high event total of 771 points. Magnusson finished the Texas Relays with personal bests in three of the seven heptathlon events.

A large portion of the North Dakota distance team will split up and be in action at the Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Track Classic in California on Friday and Saturday. Live results for all meets can be found on FightingHawks.com.

* Only two members of the North Dakota track and field team were in action at the Texas Relays, both competing in the heptathlon. Kollberg finished ninth (5,202 points) and Magnusson was 15th (4,995 points).
