STANFORD, Calif./HAYWARD, Calif. – Distance runners from the North Dakota track and field team took part in a pair of California meets on Friday that went into the first hour of Saturday in the central time zone. Both of the steeplechase school records and the women's 10,000-meter program record fell at the Stanford Invitational, while there was one improvement posted to the UND top-10 list at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
In the first minutes of Saturday in North Dakota,
Yonca Kutluk destroyed the 10,000-meter school record and beat the previous record by two and a half minutes. Kutluk shattered the record with a time of 32:57.85. The previous record was 35:27.26, set by Hannah Oscarson at the 2021 Drake Relays.
Friday night in Stanford,
Jadyn Keeler shattered her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:35.60. Her previous record was 10:45.85, which she set at Cal State Fullerton earlier this season. Keeler's time held up to place fifth in her section of the steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational.
Less than two hours later,
Luke Labatte posted a PR of 8:40.76 and broke his own program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He last broke the record at the 2023 Drake Relays, where he set it at 8:41.75. Labatte finished sixth in his section of the steeplechase at Stanford.
Earlier on Friday in Hayward,
Lennart Lindstrot added his name to the UND top-10 list in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:56.54 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. His time currently sits No. 10 in school history.
