DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The North Dakota softball team played its final game in Florida on Wednesday afternoon, falling 4-1 to Bethune-Cookman.
Katie Joten walked to lead off the game and then stole second base with one out to move into scoring position; but was unable to come around. Camryn Lasota got a 1-2-3 bottom of the first to send the game to the second scoreless, but in the bottom of the frame BCU cashed in with an RBI single to get on the board first.
Joten was hit by a pitch with two outs in the top of the third, then Izzy Haslett followed with a single to centerfield and advanced on a throw that brought Joten in to score. From there, Lasota retired ten straight batters. In the top of the fifth NoDak had a chance to take the lead as Cassie Castaneda led off with a walk and Joten singled with two outs to move Castaneda to third. Joten stole second but the green and white could not cash in with two runners in scoring position.
In the bottom of the sixth a one out triple in the bottom of the sixth started a three run inning that put BCU ahead.
Halyne Gonzalez got the win while Lasota took the loss.
