Curry Becomes Second Team All-American at NCAA Championships

| By:
BOSTON, Mass. – North Dakota track and field thrower Kenna Curry became a Second Team All-American at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Thursday night, finishing 14th in the weight throw with a toss of 67-3 1/2 (20.51m).

By competing at the National Championship meet, Curry became just the third North Dakota student-athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships in UND's Division I history. She joined Molli Detloff and Kyley Foster, who both competed at the national meet in 2019. Deltoff finished 11th in the weight throw with a toss of 67-9 1/2 (20.66m), while Foster was 10th in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-7 3/4 (4.16m) at that meet.

Curry's weight throw toss of 71-6 1/4 (21.80m) earlier this season at the SDSU Indoor Classic is the mark that qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships. In Brookings, her throw not only won the invitational weight throw title but also moved her up to No. 2 in school history in the event.

The Elk Point, S.D., native had a sensational season and was named the Field Championship MVP at the Summit League Indoor Championships two weeks ago. On the opening day of the indoor conference championships, Curry captured the gold medal in the weight throw with a toss of 69-2 (21.08m). It was the first Summit League indoor title of her career. She returned to the meet on day two and gained a silver medal in the shot put with a toss of 50-6 (15.39m). Her shot put mark tied her PR, which set the school record at the UND Open earlier this season. Curry finished the meet as a two-time All-Summit League performer and was responsible for 18 of UND's 120 points scored at the indoor conference championships.

During the regular season, Curry claimed the weight throw crown at the Dakota Alumni Classic, Jim Emmerich Invitational, UND Open, SDSU Indoor Classic and UND Tune-Up. She also won the shot put title at the UND Open, Bison Open and UND Tune-Up.

The Fighting Hawks will open their outdoor season this Friday and Saturday at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The meet, hosted by Cal State Fullerton, will begin with field events at Noon (CT) and running events at 6:30 p.m. (CT) on Friday. Day two will conclude the meet on Saturday with field events starting at Noon (CT) and action on the track commencing at 2 p.m. (CT). Live results of the meet will be provided by Finished Results.
