FULLERTON, Calif. – The North Dakota softball team continued its weekend slate in California on Saturday with a single game against San Diego State. Jackie Albrecht threw a complete game for the Fighting Hawks, taking a no-hitter into the fourth inning. She struck out six batters and allowed only five hits in seven innings of work.
In the bottom of the third NoDak got on the board first as Johanna Rodriguez hit a two out single to center field, bringing in Brooklyn Morris to score from second base. In the fourth the Fighting Hawks had a chance for more with runners on second and third with two outs, but could not extend the lead beyond 1-0.
SDSU threatened in the top of the fifth with runners on first and second with one out, but Albrecht struck out two straight to get out of the inning and keep the game at 1-0. SDSU got on the board with a two RBI double in the top of the seventh to go up 2-1.
Angie Dumlao reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh, then made way for Olivia Dick; who came in as a pinch runner. Rodriguez singled again and moved Dick to second base, but with the Fighting Hawks could not move the tying runner beyond second base.
Dee Dee Hernandez got the win while Albrecht took the loss.
Postgame Notes
· UND got eight hits to SDSU's five.
· Rodriguez has hit safely in three straight games, and has six hits in those games (three today).
· Six different Fighting Hawks picked up a hit.
· Albrecht pitched her fourth complete game of the season.
