ST. PAUL, Minn. – A sac fly from Brookyn Morris, RBI triple from Izzy Haslett and RBI single from Angie Dumlao lifted the North Dakota softball team to a 3-1 lead after the top of the fifth inning against St. Thomas on Sunday, but the Tommies came back with nine unanswered runs, including an eight run sixth, to defeat the Fighting Hawks 10-3.
After a scoreless first inning, Katelyn Neumayer drew a one out walk and then moved two bases on pass balls to advance to third. Mariah Peters walked to put runners at the corners, then Morris came to the plate and lifted a ball into centerfield that allowed Neumayer to score and make it 1-0.
After UST evened up the game in the bottom of the second, UND retook the lead in the third as Haslett hit a two out triple that rolled to the wall in right center and brought Johanna Rodriguez in from first base. NoDak added one more in the fifth as Katie Joten reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second, followed by a single to center by Dumlao to bring Joten in and make it 3-1.
From there, the Tommies got one run in the bottom of the fifth and then eight in the bottom of the sixth.
Christina Crawford got the win while Camryn Lasota took the loss.
The Fighting Hawks will return home Wednesday for a 3 p.m. matchup against Minot State at Oxford Sports Complex before hosting North Dakota State next weekend.
