MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A select number of distance runners from the North Dakota track and field team competed in the Gary Wilson Invitational in Minneapolis on Wednesday. The Fighting Hawks placed six times at the meet and posted five improvements to the UND top-10 list.
Aleksa Milanovic was the first Fighting Hawk to place at the meet and took third in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best time of 3:47.73. He was less than 0.30 seconds away from breaking the school record.
Ian Busche and
Lennart Lindstrot also joined Milanovic in the 1,500 meters and both climbed the UND top-10 list. Busche posted a PR time of 3:51.51 to move up from No. 6 to No. 4 in school history. Lindstrot reentered the UND top-10 list with a personal best of 3:53.89 and is now No. 7 in UND history in the event.
Less than an hour later,
Yonca Kutluk took part in the women's 1,500 meters and was the runner-up with a PR time of 4:25.64. With that time, she moved onto the UND top-10 list with the No. 3 time in school history.
Elle Sondag was also in the 1,500 meters with Kutluk and placed seventh with a PR of 4:46.65.
Jadyn Keeler also had a runner-up finish and was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:36.94.
Frida Giersdorff took sixth with a time of 11:01.58.
Luke Labatte was the final Hawk to take the track and placed seventh in the 5,000 meters, clocking a PR time of 14:10.09. His time improved his No. 2 mark on the UND top-10 list and was just over two seconds shy of breaking the school record.
Most of the UND track and field team was originally slated to compete at the Ron Masanz Classic in Moorhead on Friday and Saturday, but that meet was canceled this afternoon due to low entry numbers. Instead, majority of the team will now visit Bismarck on Thursday to take part in the U-Mary Classic. A pair of North Dakota throwers are also slated to compete at the Ashland Alumni Open in Ohio on Friday and Saturday. Live results from all meets can be found on FightingHawks.com.
