SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota had 11 Fighting Hawks named to the All-Summit League Team after posting 16 All-Summit League performances at the conference championships, the league offices announced Wednesday. The 11 Hawks secured All-Summit League status by finishing in the top three in their respective events at the Summit League Outdoor Championships last weekend.
Yonca Kutluk had three All-Summit League performances at the conference championships. She opened the meet Thursday with the 10,000 meters and finished as the runner-up in a time of 35:25.78. She was less than three seconds from winning the title in that race. On Saturday, she was the runner-up in the 5,000 meters (17:28.37) and earned the bronze medal in the 1,500 meters (4:29.87).
Luke Labatte made the All-Summit League Team twice at the meet. On Friday night, he took the track in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and claimed the crown in 8:50.89. His steeplechase race was not close, with him winning by over eight seconds. With the win, Labatte successfully defended his titles from the 2022 and 2023 Summit League Outdoor Championships and became the first steeplechase runner to become a three-time steeplechase champion at the meet since Jeff Mettler of South Dakota did it from 2012-14. He recorded his second all-conference performance at the championships on Saturday in the 5,000 meters and finished with the bronze medal in a time of 14:29.10.
Kenna Curry also posted a pair of all-conference performances at the conference championships. She gained the bronze medal in the hammer throw on Thursday with a toss of 183-9 (56.02m) and scored the first six points of the meet for North Dakota. On Friday, she picked up All-Summit League status for the second time of the meet, finishing as the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 50-4 (15.34m).
Tiffanie Magnusson was the first Fighting Hawk to become a two-time All-Summit League performer at the conference championships. She opened the meet with the heptathlon, where she came away with All-Summit League status and placed third with a personal-best point total of 5,065 points. Her point total moved her up to No. 4 in school history. Magnusson's best heptathlon events were the high jump (5-6 1/2, 1.69m) and long jump (19-3 1/4, 5.87m), which were events where she posted the top marks. Her high jump height also moved her up to No. 9 in program history. On Friday evening, she also picked up All-Summit League accolades in the long jump after finishing third with a PR leap of 19-6 1/4 (5.95m), which improved her No. 3 jump on the UND top-10 list.
Malene Kollberg also earned All-Summit League honors in the heptathlon and was the runner-up with 5,167 points. She piled up four top-three finishes in the seven events and had a personal-best throw in the shot put (35-7 1/4, 10.85m).
Jadyn Keeler was victorious in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night and won the gold medal with a time of 10:28.86. Her time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase currently ranks No. 46 in the NCAA West Region.
Frida Giersdorff also gained All-Summit League status in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing as the runner-up with a PR time of 10:29.78. James Weninger became an All-Summit League performer for the first time in his collegiate career on Friday, earning the bronze medal in the high jump with a personal-best clearance of 6-7 1/2 (2.02m). His PR improved his No. 7 clearance on the UND top-10 list and was a three-spot improvement from where he was projected to finish coming into the meet.
Justina Esangbedo was the final Fighting Hawk to pick up All-Summit League status at the conference championships, placing third in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 39-9 1/4 (12.12m).
