GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Four North Dakota softball student-athletes were named to the 2024 All-Summit League Softball Teams, the league offices announced Tuesday. The awards were voted on by Summit League head coaches.
North Dakota's ace in the circle,
Jackie Albrecht, was named to the conference's second team, while
Cassie Castaneda,
Angie Dumlao and
Izzy Haslett were honorable mentions. This is Castaneda's second all-league honor, as she was selected to the first team and was named the defensive player of the year last season.
Albrecht started in the circle in all 11 of her conference play appearances and pitched a complete game in seven of those contests with one shutout. In league play, Albrecht ranked No. 2 in innings pitched (68.2), No. 3 in strikeouts (50), No. 4 in ERA (1.94), No. 4 in opponents' batting average (.215) and was No. 3 in complete games (7). She closed out the regular season with three straight complete games and went the distance in six of her previous seven starts. Albrecht helped the Fighting Hawks to their first three-game sweep over NDSU this season, as she picked up a pair of wins, including a three-hit shutout in the final game. On the season, Albrecht has thrown a total of 155.2 innings with 14 complete games, holds a 2.92 ERA and has tallied 128 strikeouts.
Castaneda has been the top Hawk at the plate during the conference season boasting a .319 batting average in 18 games played. Castaneda has started every game this season for UND behind the plate and has caught a conference high seven runners trying to steal. On the season, Castaneda has thrown out 18 runners, a mark that sits tied for second across the NCAA. Of the 18 conference games, she recorded a hit in 12 of those contests and reached base safely 13 times and is currently carrying a four-game hit streak. Her best series at the plate in league play came against the Bison where she went 5-for-7, with a pair of walks, tallied two RBIs and scored twice.
Dumlao has started all 18 Summit League games for the Hawks and has tallied 12 hits, one double and two RBIs. Dumlao went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate in the second game against South Dakota and crossed home plate once. On the season, Dumlao paces the Hawks at the plate with a .283 batting average in 43 games played with 34 hits. She's scored six runs, legged out four doubles and drove in 12 runs, which ranks fourth on the team. Dumlao's recorded two or more hits in seven games and drove in two runs in three contests.
Haslett's carries UND's second highest batting average in Summit League play at .245 with 12 hits and a pair of triples in 18 conference games. Haslett's drove in two runs and crossed home plate herself twice. Haslett had a big weekend in the three-game sweep over NDSU, as she went 4-for-7 from the plate with one run scored. She recorded two hits in four different conference games and seven times on the season. On the season, she ranks No. 5 among the UND bats with 11 RBIs and has tallied five doubles and nine runs.
No. 5 seeded North Dakota will face No. 4 seed South Dakota in the Summit League Tournament First Round Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium in Brookings, S.D.
