Last weekend, North Dakota scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to upend then-ranked No. 4 Montana, 27-24.
C.J. Elrichs booted home a 19-yard field goal to knot the game up at 24-24 with 11:12 left in the game and then drilled the 40-yard game-winner with 2:16 left to put the Hawks on top for the first time in the game. UND outgained UM by a 204-34 margin in total yardage in the second half, only allowing the Griz four possessions and one first down the entire final half.
Idaho State comes to Grand Forks with a 1-1 record after beating Western Oregon, 50-10, in Pocatello last week. In the win, the Bengals piled up 556 yards of total offense, picking up 430 yards through the air and 126 yards on the ground. Kobe Tracy went 28-for-42 passing for 343 yards and four touchdowns, while also surrendering two interceptions. Ian Duarte was Tracy's top target with nine grabs for 123 yards and a pair of scores.
This will be the 10th meeting between the two teams, with NoDak holding a 6-3 series lead. Saturday will be the first meeting between the two squads since Sept. 4, 2021, when the Fighting Hawks won 35-14 in Pocatello. Five games in the series between UND and ISU have been decided by a touchdown or less. This will also be the third meeting between the two squads in Potato Bowl USA history, with North Dakota winning the very first game in the history of the Potato Bowl USA Game, 41-0, over Idaho State in 1966. ISU won the 2018 version of the game 25-21 and is the last team to beat NoDak in a Potato Bowl USA Game.
