GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Former University of North Dakota wide receiver Nate DeMontagnac was selected seventh overall by the BC Lions in the 2026 CFL Canadian Draft, as announced on Tuesday night.

DeMontagnac was the first offensive skill player taken off the board in the draft and becomes UND's highest selection in the event since Scott Schultz was selected No. 1 overall in 2001.

The Mississauga, Ontario, native concluded a strong career with North Dakota this past season, where he finished second on the team in catches (38), yards (462) and receiving yards per game (33.00) while also hauling in a pair of touchdowns and averaging over 12 yards per catch.

His best game came in his final home contest of his career against rival South Dakota State, as he hauled in seven catches for 71 yards and a score. He also had a 65-yard performance in a win over Indiana State and caught a touchdown in a road victory at Northern Iowa.

Over his career, DeMontagnac finished with 64 catches for 775 yards and four touchdowns in 40 career games and helped the Fighting Hawks reach the FCS postseason on a trio of occasions.

DeMontagnac will join Brady Oliviera (Winnipeg), Quincy Vaughn (Calgary), Evan Holm (Winnipeg) and Tyron Vrede (Saskatchewan) as former UND players currently in the CFL.
