ST. PETERS, Mo. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the young season on Sunday night, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Lindenwood in St. Peters, Mo.
UND (2-0) had to wait until 9 p.m. to take the courts on Sunday due to scheduling conflicts throughout the day, but it did not phase the Fighting Hawks as the visitors did not drop a set in the match against the Lions (0-2).
For the second straight day, UND jumped to out a quick 1-0 lead on the doubles court with a pair of wins on top and bottom courts. The duo of
Alyssa Giupponi and
Andrea Pineda started it off with a 6-1 triumph before the top pairing of
Ethel Li and
Aziza Aubin clinched the strong start with a 6-2 triumph to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
NoDak kept it rolling in singles play, as Giupponi quickly made work of her opponent on the No. 6 court with a pair of 6-0 victories to extend the lead to 2-0 before
Jule Schulte notched her first win of the season by a 6-1, 6-0 score at the No. 2 spot to make it 3-0 Hawks.
Li provided the clinching win on the night for the green and white with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph on the top spot and Aubin stretched it to 5-0 by a 7-5, 6-1 score from the fifth position. Pineda tallied a 7-5, 6-0 win at the top spot and
Nore Heinitz clinched the shutout victory by a 6-2, 7-5 score.
North Dakota will enjoy a week off before heading to Hawaii for a pair of matches.
